Radiohead – From the Basement

20 Aug

“Radiohead premiered their hour-long episode of From the Basement — featuring the band performing selections from The King of Limbs, along with two new tracks — on British television in July. But it has not been available online (it was quickly yanked when it hit the web on July 10) until now. Watch the gorgeously-shot episode for a limited time on their YouTube page — or below.

The set offers one of the most intimate looks at the band ever: It’s a blast to watch them discuss the setlist and take breaks in between filming. The music ain’t bad either. Highlights include Yorke debuting the mournful ballad “The Daily Mail” — as gorgeous and haunting as classics like “You and Whose Army” — and the groove-oriented Limbs stunner “Separator,” which sends the singer into some of his trademark, goofy-looking convulsions. Big-ups to Radiohead for finally sharing!”

Jeff Bridges – What a Little Bit of Love Can Do

16 Aug

It’s not the best song ever, it’s not the best video ever, but I’m super impressed with Jeff Bridges. The guy is a class act and very diverse in his interests. Music, photography, acting, etc.–these are all areas you’ll find the talent of Jeff Bridges. Check out his Web site for more. The dude abides.

MUTEMATH Releases Music Video for Odd Soul

1 Aug

New Orleans-based band MUTEMATH recently released a video for the title track of their new album, Odd Soul. The album is their third studio album, and is scheduled to be released on October 4th. MUTEMATH’s other albums include a 2006 self-titled album and a 2009 release, Armistice, which reached #18 on the Billboard 200 list.

Along with the video, the band has also made available a creative tool which allows viewers to remix a six-panel video board split into drums, bass, synth, guitar, vocals, and background vocals. The board gives the viewer the opportunity to mix any of the six tracks while the video is playing. Watching the video in six parts, without bothering with the mixing tools, is an experience in itself.

MUTEMATH Odd Soul Remix

An Odd Soul remix contest was also rolled out with the video, giving fans the opportunity to download and remix the song’s audio tracks for the chance to win a variety of prizes.

The Polyphonic Spree: Interactive Music Video for iPad

20 Jul

polyphonic-spree-bullseye

The Polyphonic Spree’s last album, The Fragile Army, was released over four years ago in 2007. Thankfully, since then the band has continued to write new music. The song Bullseye is the first single from a collection of songs to be released by Good Records Recordings, states the band’s website.

For this first single, The Polyphonic Spree teamed up with Moonbot Studios to create an interactive music video for the iPad and iPhone, which is being sold for $1.99 on iTunes. A portion of the iTunes app description is below:

Moonbot Studios and The Polyphonic Spree together have created an interactive, character-based narrative music video. Play through an expansive and changing world as You-Me, a small creature, striving to find his way in the world. Bring plants and creatures to life in a video where you see, hear, and touch the world around you.

An interactive app is certainly a unique way to introduce the world to new music. I can’t say I’ve ever seen anything quite like this. Bullseye, the song, is lovely. The music video is creative and visually interesting. The interactive elements built into the music video are initially fun and novel, though quickly become monotonous and distract from the beauty of the music and video. The interactive experience comes to an end by settling on a tree covered in lights, that as you tap, release tiny explosions of light and tonal sound. Nice.

Angels and Airwaves: Love

18 Jul

Although Angels and Airwaves put out an album of the same name last year, this time LOVE is being promoted as a film. Yes, that’s right, a film. And not only that, on Wednesday, August 10th at 8:00pm Angels & Airwaves will appear LIVE on movie screens across the US for an exclusive one night event featuring the debut of LOVE followed by a live band performance and Q&A.

I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest fan of Angels and Airwaves, however I do enjoy people who try new things and I look forward to this endeavor. I’m not sure it will be as epic as it is advocating, but it looks pretty good and certainly sparked my sci-fi interest. Check out the Trailer Here.
