The Hobbit - Bilbo Baggins

A lot of news has been released recently about the film based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy story, The Hobbit. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, a two part prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy, will be released December 2012. The biggest piece of news is the unveiling of the film’s first trailer. Watch the new trailer below:

The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975

11 Aug

This looks like a very powerful film. I look forward to such poignant subject matter as well as a great and relevant soundtrack.

> Check out the Trailer Here.

“THE BLACK POWER MIXTAPE 1967-1975 mobilizes a treasure trove of 16mm material shot by Swedish filmmakers, after languishing in a basement of a TV station for 30 years, into an irresistible mosaic of images, music, and narration chronicling the evolution one of our nations most indelible turning points, the Black Power movement. Featuring candid interviews with the movements most explosive revolutionary minds, including Angela Davis, Bobby Seale, Stokely Carmichael, and Kathleen Cleaver, the film explores the community, people and radical ideas of the movement. Music by Questlove and OmMas Keith, and commentary from and modern voices including Erykah Badu, Harry Belafonte, Talib Kweli, and Melvin Van Peebles give the historical footage a fresh sound and make THE BLACK POWER MIXTAPE 1967-75 an exhilarating, unprecedented account of an American revolution.”

Last week, The Walking Deads Executive Producer, Gale Anne Hurd, announced that the series would be returning for season two on Sunday, October 16 to the AMC cable network. The Walking Dead, based on the hit comic book series by Robert Kirkman, follows a group of survivors after the dawn of the zombie apocalypse.

Season one of The Walking Dead originally aired on October 31, 2010. The show was nominated for three Emmy Awards: Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup For A Series, Miniseries, Movie Or A Special, Outstanding Sound Editing For A Series, and Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series.

Season two will feature 13 episodes and will follow the band of survivors during their escape from Atlanta into the countryside.

The show’s website describes the plot as…

an epic, edge-of-your-seat drama where personal struggles are magnified against a backdrop of moment-to-moment survival. A survivalist story at its core, the series explores how the living are changed by the overwhelming realization that those who survive can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.

Pearl Jam: Twenty

27 Jul

This looks great. Check out the Trailer.

“Pearl Jam Twenty chronicles the years leading up to the bands formation, the chaos that ensued soon-after their rise to megastardom, their step back from center stage, and the creation of a trusted circle that would surround them-giving way to a work culture that would sustain them. Told in big themes and bold colors with blistering sound, the film is carved from over 1,200 hours of rarely-seen and never-before seen footage spanning the bands career. Pearl Jam Twenty is the definitive portrait of Pearl Jam: part concert film, part intimate insider-hang, part testimonial to the power of music and uncompromising artists.”

Angels and Airwaves: Love

18 Jul

Although Angels and Airwaves put out an album of the same name last year, this time LOVE is being promoted as a film. Yes, that’s right, a film. And not only that, on Wednesday, August 10th at 8:00pm Angels & Airwaves will appear LIVE on movie screens across the US for an exclusive one night event featuring the debut of LOVE followed by a live band performance and Q&A.

I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest fan of Angels and Airwaves, however I do enjoy people who try new things and I look forward to this endeavor. I’m not sure it will be as epic as it is advocating, but it looks pretty good and certainly sparked my sci-fi interest. Check out the Trailer Here.

Foo Fighters: Back and Forth

23 Mar

“The film takes us on the 16 year journey of the Foo Fighters, from Dave Grohl and Pat Smear’s surviving the aftermath of Nirvana to Dave, Pat, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins and Chris Shiflett’s rise to the top of the charts and the stages of stadiums worldwide. … These Days builds from day one to the creation of their new album – recorded in 100% analog. No computers, no software – just a band recording an album to tape in Dave Grohl’s one-car garage.”

Robin Hood: From the Ground Up

27 May

Universal 3.5 Stars
2010

The long told saga of Robin Hood is one that can be told for generations. And the latest screen portrayal is certainly the most realistic to date. However, when I say realistic, I don’t really know what I mean by that. How much reality do we know about this fellow anyway? Or was there even a fellow named Robin of the Hood at all? It’s not like there’s a classic novel which all the pop culture appearances are loosely based on. It’s more of a medieval legend based on actions and feelings held by Englishmen at a certain point in history all summed up into one character. But I suppose legends are legendary for a reason. Maybe that is why I always find it interesting. I do know there’s a little truth in the mix somewhere, and maybe that’s what makes it fun. Even if it’s just folklore, it’s such a powerful standard of heroism that I can’t help but believe. (more…)

Don’t you love a good teaser trailer that doesn’t show any details? This one looks fun.

Exit Through The Gift Shop

26 Mar

Exit Through the Gift Shop tells the incredible true story of how an eccentric French shop keeper turned documentary maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on its owner – with spectacular results. The film contains exclusive footage of Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Invader and many of the world’s most infamous graffiti artists at work, on walls and in interview. As Banksy describes it, “It’s basically the story of how one man set out to film the un—filmable. And failed”
