Third Eye Blind | Free New Song
If there’s one band that I think could define junior high (and most of the 90’s) for me, it’s Third Eye Blind. After being off the scene for 5 years, Third Eye Blind is back with a free single for everyone to download [click to download] called “Non-Dairy Creamer”. Apparently they’ve got a new EP coming out mid-November and a new full-length to follow called...

Every. Video. Ever. (thanks MTV)
You may have heard about MTV—they used to play music videos back in the day, complete with VJ (Video Jockeys) and countdowns. Well, that was way back in the 90’s. Today MTV consists of second-rate reality television and little to no music. But today we’re putting that behind us because MTV just rolled out MTVMUSIC.com. How they were able to sneak this one by everyone amazes me,...

Unreleased Download: Sleeping At Last
We here at Evade, like to encourage quality music and one of the bands that we admire is Sleeping At Last. SAL is an independent alternative rock band from Illinois. Both their albums Ghosts and Keep No Score are personal favorites or mine that I keep coming back to on the iPod. A couple weeks ago they were asked to participate in a campaign for the Humane Society of the United States which aims...

This Will Destroy You [worth a listen]
No, we’re not making death threats here at evade, we’re talking about the ambient rock band from Texas known as This Will Destroy You. A friend recently turned me on to these guys and at first listen was hooked. This Will Destroy You is an instrumental rock band with a lot of attitude and heart. It’s the kind of music you write poetry to or the kind of music you think deeply...

Harvey: Imaginary Sanity
Universal 1950
Amid some slapstick humor emerges an appreciation for the simpler things in life. Well, that and a giant six-foot-three invisible rabbit. As crazy as that sounds, Harvey is a heartwarming comedy that certainly gets better with time and always leaves you with a smile. From the classic era of cinema, it’s a film that lifts your spirits and gives you hope about friendship.
So...

Hard Boiled: The Bullet Ballet
Golden Princess Productions 1992
Get the skinny on Chow Yun-Fat’s most impressive work as a Hong Kong action hero. It’s not Kung-fu, it’s Gun-fu! Rarely would I ever be so bold to review and actually suggest an action film filled with so much blatant testosterone, but Hard Boiled is an absolute must see for any fan of action. And as conventional as that may sound, I must try to express...

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
Though only being together for a little less than a year, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour have already made leaps and bounds in their musical exposure. There must be some geniuses (pun intended) working at Apple, because they discovered TAGT before anyone else and featured them on the new iPod Touch ad. I just finished listening their forthcoming EP (due out Oct. 28th) and I’m actually pretty...

Jack's Mannequin - The Glass Passenger
Sire / Wea Released: September 30, 2008 I expected great things from the new Jack’s Mannequin, but after more than a week with The Glass Passenger I’m still left with a void in my heart. It’s not that I think that Anderew McMahon (aka: Jack’s Mannequin) hasn’t written some good new material, it’s just… well, it’s just not nearly as good as his last...

Fiction Family is Near
Over a year ago, I posted information about a new band forming from two former bands, Nickel Creek and Switchfoot. The duo of Sean Watkins and Jon Foreman was called the Real Sean Jon, but soon changed to the Fiction Family. Just this week, Spin did an article on the new band and tells us that there is finally a release date of January 20, 2009. If you want to read the article check it out here....

Are You Ready for New Coldplay?
Coldplay released “Viva la Vida” in June of this year, and as promised they will release a quick follow-up E.P. this year. The new material is to be released next month, on November 25,2008, with the title of “Prospekt’s March”. The E.P. will have a new version of “Lost” featuring Jay-Z plus a new song titled “Glass of Water” that the band...

Weezer in Guinness Book of Records
Just admit it, Weezer makes some cool videos. Think about all the music videos in the past beginning with “Buddy Holly”, then “Hash Pipe”, “Keep Fishin’”, “Beverly Hills”, and their latest “Pork and Beans” being an instant favorite among the web enthusiasts. But it looks as though their newest endeavor is to get into the Guinness...

Preview Keane's Upcoming Album on Last.fm
Just thought we’d give you a heads up that you’re favorite British piano ballad rock band is letting you hear their newest album for free on Last.fm. As you listen you’ll get exclusive interviews with the guys from the band and their thoughts on different songs. I honestly think this is a genius idea and something that more bands should do. Keane is taking a bold step with...

Review: The New Frontiers - Mending
The Militia Group Released: February 12, 2008 The debut album Mending from The New Frontiers is still holding strong as one of the best albums of 2008. As we move into the stillness of fall, I find myself coming back to this inspiring album. When the album came out on February 12, 2008 I was a little pre-occupied and overlooked the hype and excitement for this new release. As time had gone by,...

Ben Folds - Way to Normal
Epic Released: September 30th, 2008 Everybody’s favorite hipster piano man is back with his official third solo album and no matter what the title may suggest it’s certainly far from anything way too normal. I thought I would get that pun out of the way early on since you knew it was coming. On the heels of 2005’s Songs for Silverman, which was a much softer and ballad driven album, Way...

Anberlin - New Surrender
Universal Republic Released: September 30, 2008 Anberlin’s latest titled New Surrender keeps their fans happy and maintains their solid rock sound. I’ve enjoyed every one of Anberlin’s albums, including this latest one. There was a lot of hype surrounding New Surrender as Anberlin made the transition away from Tooth and Nail Records to a major label. I always keep close watch...

Phil Wickham - Singalong
Self-Released Released: August 7, 2008 Complete with corporate singing, hymns, and some of Phil’s best originals songs, this is quite possibly the best worship album of the year…and I don’t just mean this year. One of the key components to worship music is community—without it worship music is just plain old music. The Church created worship music to sing and worship God...

Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night
RCA Released: September 23, 2008 The brothers that are Kings of Leon bring a sound that’s simply classic but new. Only By The Night proves that even after 4 albums, these guys haven’t lost their touch. After watching Kings of Leon perform on both Conan O’Brien and Saturday Night Live I knew I would have to buy this album. Especially after watching their SNL performance, it was...
