Dizmas - Tension

Credential Recordings
2007

Feeling the tension is one thing, but making it the theme of your album… now that’s a whole different story.

With a passion for both people and what they do, Dizmas brings their second record to a different level. Fans of their first record On A Search In America might be feeling the tension between loving a young, excited band, to now hearing a group of men who have matured and grown in their faith and writing. Dizmas’ release entitled Tension blends the modern, sometimes unappreciated sounds of The Juliana Theory, while giving us the strength of bands like Jimmy Eat World and The Foo Fighters. This album is full of the energy of their first record, but with more vocal control than previously known, and a rock sound that makes their fans keep coming back.

Lyrically the album takes a new stance in Christian music. The band has always been known for wearing their hearts on their sleeves, and front-man Zach Zegan is notorious for taking time during their sets to talk through what they are thinking about as a band and followers of Christ. Tension reveals some of the hurts and pains of a long time on the road and reveals an insiders opinion of the life of a Christian band. Beginning with the song “Jealousy Hurts” Dizmas is calling for “new hearts” for both themselves and their listeners. “Play It Safe,” “The Is A Warning” and “The Voice is Ghostly” all speak of the urgency of the Gospel, even citing famous passages like Romans 3 “… there is no one who seeks God… no not one.” A relationship has been stretched to it’s limits in “If You Love Someone.” “October” tells of a friend who took their own life. “See Daylight” begs the question of whether ‘comfort’ has taken the place of what really matters? At the heart of this record is “Nothing At All.” Not only is it the longest song on the record, but it also has the vocal support of Bethany Dillon. According to lead singer Zach Zegan this song is about a band they went on tour with after the release of their first album. During that time they learned much about the people they toured with and where their hearts were at. The honest cry of “Nothing At All” is that there is a balance between being loving and being truthful and that can be difficult to understand at times. When we said they wear their hearts on their sleeves, we weren’t kidding.

Dizmas isn’t your normal band: they’re your friends and they’re like your brothers. Many fans agree that Dizmas has always been a great live band, but as well they are very genuine and kind when approached by people at shows. Even if it were possible for you to not thoroughly enjoy their records, you would be drawn to their characters as guys. Tension is just another way for us to get to know Dizmas’ character, but in a new way. If you have the opportunity to see them live, you will not be dissapointed as their performance is top notch.

Welcome To Evade The Noise

After 2 years of countless emails, design collabortion, and driving to and from L.A., evade the noise is here. We would like to take a minute and welcome you to our new home for music review, music banter, and the all around music experience. Much labor has gone in to creating what we believe will be a source for music review and just talking about “the noise” people are making around the globe. So welcome and stay a while. Click play on the evade radio and enjoy a good track or two. Read a little bit, and tell us what you think. Nothing could be more exciting for us today than to begin to write about music. Music is something we love here at evade the noise and that’s why we’re doing this. We want to write about it. We want you to know what we think about it. Not because we’re the smartest people in the world, but because we’re like you, listeners of music.

We’re the people you see outside your local music store on Tuesday, waiting for the new records. We’re the people searching the internet, blogs, and newspaper, reading about music. Yeah, we’re those people rockin’ out in our cars to a song that we’ve probably heard a thousand times, but just can’t get enough of. Oh, and the people that love a good show, and get stoked when our favorite artist is coming within a 100 miles of where we live. We’re friends of the band, and we’re friends of their friends. We’re evade the noise.
