Parachute is a band you’ll definitely be hearing more about in the coming months. With a Maroon 5 resemblance and absolutely stunning melodies, this pop band is going places. Parachute originally formed while together at college and these students just graduated in 2008. I’m not exactly sure what they studied at school, but I’m sure they took “yeah we’re cool college guys in a band and we’re better than your friend’s band 101.”

For a debut album, Losing Sleeping just might be prophetic reference to how the guys will be feeling this year: at a loss of sleep due to a career explosion. It’s actually shocking they even made it all the way through school without being picked up by a major record label. Every song on this album is a single and there really isn’t a song on there that disappoints. The opening track “All That I Am” with a piano driven, drum pounding verse hooked me at first listen. Singer Will Anderson has great control over his voice and it’s not so unique that you are annoyed and not so cookie cutter that you’re bored.

I’m always about giving you a heads up on tracks that I can’t get enough of and this record has two of them–the first being “The Mess I’ve Made.” It’s a love sound about a missed opportunity, but the vocals and piano are simple and elegant. I love how the drums come in and it’s not what you expect to happen which always makes me happy. It’s as if the drums are supporting the lyrics “I should’ve held my ground…” The second track I love is their single “She Is Love.” I’m not sure what version of this song that they released to radio, but the acoustic on this track is brilliant. Slow, with a light picking and slap it tells you these Virginia natives aren’t just pretty faces–they know their stuff.

Sure they’re a pop band, but sometimes the pop is what you need. That’s why I’m recommending them to you now. If you’re in the mood for a really talented, radio-friendly, pop band then Parachute is for you. We can’t always be scared to branch out in to the pop world–sometimes we just need a song we can sing along to.
