One of the greatest things happening in the Christian music industry is a revival the hearts of musicians. It’s a small revival towards redefining what Christian music is really about–that is, Jesus Christ. More than money, more than selling records, more than the fame, some musicians are simply producing great music and giving it away or taking little to no profit from their efforts. One band that is driven with a passion to produce that kind of music is lovelite. This husband and wife combo loves Jesus and they reveal their love for Him in the beautiful music they make. Lovelite’s latest album All Color is a sunrise on what I believe will be a new day for Christian music.

lovelite - all color (full review)

Resembling such bands as Sleeping At Last, Keane, and even a touch of Eisley, Lovelite will not disappoint. Their sound and production is top notch and their writing is simple and serene. They have a great balance of the fast stuff and slowing it down for just the right moments on the album. Lyrically they appear to be Biblically informed and show a maturity that is rare in Christian music, especially for younger artists. The opening track “There You Are” proclaims the attribute of God’s omnipresence when the chorus sings “From the brightest of places, to the infinite spaces, there You are, there You are..” Though their lead singer Andrew takes the reigns on the majority of the vocals, his wife Jen does lead a few tracks like “The Fullness.” This song screams of Eisley, but I don’t feel like they are ripping them off in the least bit. It’s a good original tune and I appreciate the acoustic intro and light, subdued drums throughout the whole song. At the end of the day, I’m a fan of lovelite.

As well as being good songwriters and having a passion to be a change agent in Christian music, lovelite has made a good move by being on a record label that will support their vision. Come&Live is a brand new label that was started by a former Tooth and Nail A&R agent, Chad Johnson. Other than working with some of the greatest bands in T&N’s history, Chad loves Christ and music. Relevant magazine has even started calling his label “the missionary record label.” His desire is to see bands that have a heart for using their music as a ministry through their mission and to really be able to live that out. By picking up lovelite, I believe that Come&Live is simply revealing Chad’s great taste in music as well as choosing bands that are like-minded. Needless to say, I’m sure it’s a great relationship for C&L and lovelite.

Currently, All Color is being offered as a “pay what you feel.”
You simply tell them how much you want to pay and that’s what you get the album for. I personally think this album is worth full price and would recommend putting your money behind these kids–they’re worth it. I’m excited to see what they’re future holds. Definitely get yourself a copy of All Color and pass along the name lovelite to your friends.
